Pawns & Pajamas Chess Tournament

Join us for the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s Pawns N’ Pajamas Chess Tournament on Friday, September 20, 2024! Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their coziest pajamas.

Since school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to not only exercise their skills, but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills, which directly translates to their math, science and reading scores.

DIVISIONS:

• K-2 Unrated

• K-4 Unrated

• K-7 Unrated

• K-12 Unrated

REGISTRATION FEES

• $15 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members)

• $8 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members)

• All entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the duration of the event

• All fees increase by $5 for day-of registrants

Pre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 5:00pm – 5:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome! Please note that seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we highly recommend pre-registering.

ROUNDS:

First Round starts at 5:30pm | Awards announced at 7:30pm

Everyone will play in 4 rounds, G/10+3. No eliminations.

Chess sets (board/pieces/clocks) will be provided for use during the tournament.

Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 players in each division.
