About the event
MSO presents a fun family event featuring a theatrical concert designed especially for young audiences and their grownups. Based on a momentous historical event, American Discovery tells of the great composer Tchaikovsky’s arrival in New York for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891 and his famous trip to Niagara Falls. A surprise encounter with Jennie, a young American girl, gives us a glimpse into Tchaikovsky’s life in Russia, his love of music, and his fears of conducting. Audiences will enjoy more than 25 excerpts of Tchaikovsky’s music woven magically throughout the drama. This delightful performance is part play, part concert, and part ballet.
After the performance there will be fun hands-on musical and art OrKIDStra activities. Symphony OrKIDStra! strives to engage students in active participation in the creative arts, enhance literacy and critical thinking skills, and to build a strong platform for learning.
